I came across a collection of Aiba and Nino-related quotes taken from various magazine issues, radio talks, con reports, etc. etc. spanning almost ten years, and I thought they were really cute so I picked out a few of the ones I liked and translated them. They were originally compiled by Aiba/Nino fans, but you don't need to be a fan of the pairing to read these. :)

1999/10 - TV kids

"A while ago me and Nino and Aiba-chan acted in a quarreling skit. There's the Super Idol Aiba-chan image on 8J isn't there, and so it makes Nino's low spirited image very unnoticeable doesn't it? "Aiba-chan ne, his relationship with me is already in its fourth year. It's probably about time to start considering marriage now, right? (laugh) Right, right~ a while ago when we were going home from our dome concert, we took the train together and Aiba-chan fell asleep! He was wearing sunglasses at first, and then his head fell back while he slept, so in the end the glasses tilted up too. And the way he looked with his mouth half open was super stupid! (laugh) But I also love the Aiba-chan that makes these kinds of stupid faces! (laugh)" - Nino



2000/03 - Wink Up

"The kind of concentration on specific things that Nino has is really not bad. But his persistence with games is not ordinary at all (laugh). And lately he likes playing guitar again. Even if we're travelling to other places, he can sit in the hotel room at night and happily play and sing songs for an hour. If you complain and say it's too noisy, he would play even louder, so I can only quietly put up with it (laugh)" - Aiba

In this talk Ohno was talking about which characters they would be if they acted out Saiyuki. Nino was very happy to be casted as Son Goku, but when he heard that Aiba's role would be Sanzo (aka. the one who gets to punish Goku), he immediately commented with the above.



2002/12 - Potato

"To Nino:

You're the first good friend I made since becoming a Jr. We used to always go to each other's houses to play, and whenever you came across something unhappy you would show it even if you didn't say anything about it, a look of unhappiness on your face. But you don't do that anymore; without knowing when, you became a mature adult who knows how to bear it and hide what you think.

Though there are lots of people worrying about you, saying you don't go anywhere on your days off and just stay at home, I think you would naturally go out when you feel like going out so I've never thought there was anything wrong with that. People change according to their mood, right?" - Aiba



2003/01 - Wink Up

"To me, Christmas is 'Aiba-chan's birthday'. That's why even when the streets outside are decorated with the atmosphere of Christmas, what I think inside would still be "Ah, Aiba-chan's birthday is coming up~". When everyone around the world is shouting "Santa Claus! Christmas trees!" and get excited beyond belief, I would still be thinking inside, "What kind of present should I give Aiba-chan for his birthday?" It's been like this starting from 6 years ago." - Nino

After some rambling about trips in general and what he would do if he was with a girlfriend, he adds at the end:

"But I can't not wish Aiba-chan a happy birthday first! I have to celebrate his birthday first, and then the Christmas celebrations can come later. See? I told you it would be tough to be my girlfriend (laugh)." - Nino



2003/7 - TV Guide

"When you feel uncomfortable, please definitely tell me. Though I know you're afraid to give us trouble, everyone will worry. And some things won't be good if it's too late. The four of us are here for that reason, so when you don't feel well you need to tell us immediately. What Aiba-chan doesn't say, I will say first. (laugh)" - Nino

"Lately it seems like we're always together... And it's almost to the point where it's a new record. Why does it feel like we're always together? But then I thought, aren't we aaaaalways together?" - Nino



2005/11/10 - FM Nagano

"Ever since we met, there has been no such thing as Christmas." - Nino

This was from a guest appearance on a radio show where the host asked Nino what kind of plans he had for Christmas, upon which he replied that since meeting Aiba he has no concept of Christmas anymore.



2007/06 - Popolo

"When we're both busy and can't see each other, I would watch Tensai! Shimura Dobutsuen; when I see how see how spirited he is, I would feel at ease. In the midst of all the antics with different kinds of animals, he's always working hard (laugh). Seeing how spirited he is, I would feel like I need to work hard as well." - Nino
